PhD in Financial Markets and Risk Management Study Plan
The PhD in Financial Markets and Risk Management program is designed to develop advanced knowledge and analytical skills in the fields of finance, investment, and risk management. The study plan corresponds to 60 ECTS credits according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) — equivalent to one full academic year of study for an average-paced student.
Program Structure:
-
Year 1: Independent Study and Reading
The first year is focused on independent learning through a curated list of academic books and materials shared with you. Students are encouraged to study at their own pace and gain a deep understanding of the core areas of financial markets and risk management.
Our students are generally self-motivated and capable of following the curriculum without constant supervision or professor pressure. The goal of this stage is to build a strong theoretical foundation and prepare for research work in the following year.
-
Year 2: Research and Development
The second year emphasizes research activities, including data analysis, literature review, and the development of the research proposal. Students work under the guidance of their academic supervisor, who helps refine research objectives and methodologies. -
Year 3: Thesis Writing and Graduation
The third year is dedicated to writing, reviewing, and finalizing the PhD thesis. During this stage, students present and defend their research findings before graduation.
